Safety Standard Design For Bumpers On Passenger Cars

All vehicles in the United States are required by law to have bumpers. Usually installed at the cars front and rear ends, bumpers play a very important role in maintaining passenger safety. Primarily, bumpers are designed to absorb impact during low to medium-impact collisions. Nowadays, though, bumper design is also developed to reduce injuries on pedestrians upon collision with the car.

The government first began requiring the use of bumpers to prevent damage to safety auto parts such as the headlights. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued this as a countrywide regulation for all passenger car bumpers. Standards for bumper designs were implemented for each kind of vehicle. Design standards also differed according to the height and size of the vehicle, to ensure maximum absorption of collision impact.

Car design companies obtain licenses for bumper designs by passing the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) Test before presenting it to manufacturers. Long- running car design and manufacturing companies located in places such as Chico, California have been producing effective bumper designs for years and have been complying with industry standards.

Bumper standards have passed through two stages of development. When standards were first implemented, passenger car bumpers were required to prevent any damage to safety-related auto parts other than the bumper. More recent developments in bumper safety standards reduced test impact speeds from 5 mph to 2.5 mph for front and rear testing, and from 3 mph to 1.5 mph for corner testing. Bumpers on all modern cars, even used cars Chico, must comply with all these standards.

The best small family cars

The competition amongst car manufacturers in the small family car segment is tough as this is a segment of the market where you can catch both single or couples wanting a smaller round-around and families wanting a more economical family vehicle.

The Volkswagen Golf has always been amongst the more popular models and appeals to all ages and across gender barriers. Younger men tend to go for the sportier GTI version while older women favour a more frugal version. It’s always been hailed as a good performer that is fun to drive but the car is also seen as a bit conservative in its styling. But resale value is goods although it’s not the cheapest car to buy or to run; at least your investment is safe.

A more spacious alternative in the small hatchback class is the Skoda Octavia which also has the benefit of being cheap to buy and run.

You should however try and avoid the cheaper models as they are somewhat spears on the equipment side. If you opt for the Greenline II model you get a car with sub 100g/km emission that averages 70 mpg. To test drive a new Skoda,Reading is one city you can visit a dealership.

Skoda Fabia Hatchback Review

If you are after a new car and are hoping to find a good all rounder that will serve you well and not cost you an arm and a leg, then the Skoda Fabia hatchback is for you. A reliable car that is affordable while still being chic, the car is a great run-around, offering plenty of visibility and basic, yet really good quality features.

Skoda is a Czech company that became a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen at the turn of the century. The brand is well known for making reliable vehicles, and is often seen second hand due to their durability. The company began by making bicycles and branched out into cars when their factory size was increased. They have made eight different models, with the Octava being one of their bestsellers.

Inside the car, the dashboard is minimal, easily arranged in a sensible way and clear and concise. Although the car is tiny, there is lots of space in the back, for whether you prefer to do a lot of shopping, or ferry around some six foot men.

The boot is cavernous and will easy take a suitcase for a weekend away, meaning that passengers will not be compromised on leg room or having to sit with their bag on their lap.

If you are looking for reliability, then this is the car for you, as long as you can sacrifice silence. Sadly both the diesel and petrol models are loud, so although it is easy to drive you may need to pump up the tunes to drown out the noise.

Minivans Are Out, SUVs Are In

Out with the old and in with the new! Mini vans are slowly going out of style and today’s “soccer moms” are looking for a more modern and stylish way to travel with their families. The spacious option of the minivan has always appealed to families of all sizes, but today the 6 passenger SUV is becoming increasingly popular. Exceptional gas mileage, roomy, and comfortable are all qualities that these vehicles possess. They can not only get you from point a to point b, but they make you look good doing it. Something that the traditional family car or van of this size is not able to offer.

With the economy in a crisis, gas mileage is more important than ever. Every mile counts. With a 6 passenger SUV, you get significantly better mpg than your traditional family van. The average estimated miles per gallon is around 17 city/24 highway for most of the vehicles.

It competes with some sedans that are half of its size. The Toyota Highlander hybrid can get 28mpg on the highway and also in the city!

The advantages don’t stop there. The main draw to the traditional mini van is that families are able to fit everyone in one vehicle along with all of their belongings. Seats are able to be folded down stored in most models to provide maximum space for smaller families or those times that not everyone tags along. For the times that you fill up the SUV however, the back area of the vehicles offer enough room to store a variety of items.
