Child Car Seat Safety ? Choosing the Best Child Car Seat for Your Child

When choosing a Child Car Seat it is important first to check with the manufacturer which seat fits in your car. Most manufacturers list child car seats that are appropriate. The next important consideration is your child’s weight – you will notice I didn’t say age – that’s right – child and baby car seats are designed for a child or baby from and up to a specific weight – so you have to know this before choosing the right seat. All child car seats come with a classification which tells the parents exactly the age of child the seat is most appropriate for. These are as follows:

Stage 0+ Infant Carriers

These seats are for newborn babies to around 1 year – remember, it is the weight of your baby that determines which seat must be used, nothing to do with baby’s leg length, the zero plus seat is suitable for children up to 13 kilograms or 28lbs.

Stage 0+ and 1 Car Seats

These are much larger car seats, designed for babies from newborn to around 4 years – when used for a baby up to 9kgs, the seat is used rearward facing, once the baby has reached 9 kg weight the seat can be turned round and is used forward facing Check that it is compatible with your vehicle when fitted forward and rearward facing.

This style seat is rather bulky and normally remains in the car and you simply lift the baby out.

To accomodate babies based on their age and weight is the purpose of baby car seats design. Therefor, the proper type of baby car seats for your baby has to be ensured. If your baby is under 1 year age and is less than 20lbs, you should install the baby car seats as rear-facing seat. The car’s back seat is the right post where all baby car seats should be fitted.

The Sense of Hearing in Infants and Toddlers

The fetus can already hear while still inside the mother’s womb.  He hears his mother’s heartbeats, the grumbling of her stomach, and sudden loud noises like a car blaring or a drum banging.  Once he hears a sudden loud sound, the mother usually feels a perceptible sudden jerking movement in her womb.  And when the baby is delivered to the world, he is assaulted by a myriad of noises he has never heard of.

The Effects of Music to Infants

Like stated above, babies inside the womb can hear sounds.  If his mother is fond of listening to soft music or humming to her baby, that same kind of music and the same kind of humming produces a calming effect to her infant when he comes out into the world.  If he becomes fussy, the mother usually hums the familiar tune and the baby soon calms down.  Hearing is also one of the baby’s ways in recognizing his mother as he turns towards her familiar voice when she speaks to him.

Another importance of music to infants, aside from its calming effects, is that it stimulates the baby’s brain, allowing him to recognize different tones and pitches.  Take for example the Mozart Effect.  It has been studied that infants who listen to music played by Mozart greatly enhances the baby’s IQ as the music helps in the formation of neural bridges in his brain.

Infant Car Seat Covers, Seats and the Best Choices

Though oldsters take so much trouble to choose a high quality baby car seat to carry their valuable bundle of joy in the auto, one of the most tragic facets of child safety on the roads is that in most situations they don’t fit the seat in the correct way. According to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) almost 80% of child safety seats are badly fitted or misused. And this means that of those 80%, an equal number equipped with infant car seat covers are also misused.

The most prevalent blunders are harness straps that were loose and safety belt attachments that are incorrectly fastened. These mistakes are outlined by the NHTSA as ‘critical’ because there’s a likelihood of heavy injury in the event of an accident.

First, make sure that you are using the right type of seat for your baby’s age and weight, and that it is facing facing the proper way. Some multi-purpose seats can be fitted to face either forward or backward and the fitting will change as your kid grows. Babies under one year old and under 20 lb in weight should have rear-facing seats.

It is also feasible to buy infant seats for young babies. These are built to be rear-facing only, so you will need a new seat when your kid gets bigger. You can carry your sleeping baby around in their safety seat.
