A Guide to Insurance for Classic Cars

A Guide to Insurance for Classic Cars

Whether you collect classic and antique cars or you have just completed the rebuilding of your favourite car from the past, you do need to give serious consideration to the type of insurance policy that you have on the car. Insurance specifically for classic cars is not a new concept in automobile insurance and owners have been able to take out a special policy for the past five decades. In spite of this many owners of classic cars still insure the vehicles under a standard car insurance policy.

A standard car insurance policy for an antique car is quite expensive and you have less coverage under such a policy as you do for the vehicle that you use on a daily basis. By contacting an insurance provider that does offer this type of car insurance, you can not only save some of your hard-earned dollars but you can obtain more coverage for the money that you spend.

In order for a car to qualify for the type of insurance that is available for classic cars, your car does have to meet the insurer’s requirements. A classic car is one that is older than normal, usually 15 or 25 years old. You are not permitted to use this car for commercial transportation. There are many people who would pay to get a drive in a classic car and there are some owners who do operate this type of business, such as wedding cars for the bride and groom. Therefore in order to qualify for specialized insurance, you cannot use it to make money. Another common requirement of insurance providers is that the classic car you want to insure cannot be the primary vehicle that you use every day. You must have at least one other vehicle that you normally use keeping the antique car for special occasions only.

A Car Bore?s Guide to a Used Ford Mondeo

Go to any car dealership and you can be certain you’ll come across a used Ford Mondeo – it is a fact as inevitable as the world being round or water being wet. Supplies of Ford cars are plentiful – used Ford especially so – with competitive pricing and popular styling just two features of a car company making arguably the best cars it ever has done.

There are two histories the used Ford Mondeo sitting on the forecourt could have in its logbook. The first history would reveal a mid-thirtysomething salesman with many motorway journeys under his belt (and many corporate lunches too no doubt). His suit jacket having been lovingly hung up in the back as it accompanied him on his travels and sales pitter patter. The second life the car could’ve had would be the all purpose, all conquering family pet. Muddy football boots, furniture from Ikea and mountains of glitter from a night out would all have come into contact with the Mondeo.

Whether the car comes with life history 1 or history 2, it doesn’t matter. Either way the car would’ve faithfully carried out it’s duties and has only appeared on the forecourt because either: a) salesman didn’t sell enough and was sacked, b) salesman sold lots and was given a new Mondeo, c) family had another child and bought a people carrier. A good buy on all accounts then, but before you decide on which colour to go for, let me fill you in on the birth of the Mondeo and how it made Ford’s accountants’ life expectancies rise dramatically.

Car Seat Safety Guide for Children

Most parents understand the importance of using the car seat belts on themselves and on their children. Parents are responsible for their kids’ safety while they are driving and it is there sole responsibility to ensure that the kids have their safety belts on and well secured. Statistics show that each and every year thousands of children get injured or lose their lives in car crashes. If the safety belts are used well then the kids become safer. There are very many types of car seat safety belts and it is very easy for the parent to be overwhelmed. But if one take the time to keenly learn what they need then they will have an easier time selecting.

There are seat belts for the infants and rear-facing convertible seats. It is a rule that infants should ride rear-facing up to the age of one and should weigh at least 20 pounds. Toddlers have convertible seats and the same rule about facing rear while riding applies. This usually prevents or reduces damage in case of an accident. There are booster seats for older kids who have outgrown their forward facing car seats. The booster seat is used because the can not fit in the adult seats well. Usually they are meant to use them till they are about 4.9 inches and are between 8 and 12 years of age. The older children should use the normal car seats.

A Definitive Guide to Modern Compact Cars

The popularity of compact cars is on the rise. Skyrocketing oil prices and constantly-improving features of these cars are just a couple of the main reasons why buyers are grabbing compacts off the shelves. And nowadays compact cars are not only the choice because of their fuel efficiency and practicality, but also because of their affordable price and excellent value for money.

The compact car is defined as a car that is a tad smaller than medium-sized cars or sedans. The term compact car is mainly North American in origin, and in Europe, compacts are known as “small family cars”.

Let’s go back a few years and see how today’s modern compacts came to be.

A brief history of compacts: European and US Market

After World War II, European manufacturers mainly featured two vehicle types: small cars or superminis and large sedans or super saloons. Some of these manufacturers discovered that a lot of middle class buyers wanted a larger version of the superminis, and this led to the creation of small family cars – the forerunner of today’s compact cars. The first successful line of makes and models that came out during this time are: Volkswagen Golf, Renault 5, Fiat Ritmo, Citroen GSA, and the Opel Kadett.

Although compact cars have been manufactured in the United States even before World War II, some consider the first modern compacts to have come out from the years 1958 to 1960, namely: the Studebaker Lark, Chevrolet Corvair, Ford Falcon and Plymouth Valiant.

Small Family Cars ? The Used Cars? Price Guide

Small family cars have always been popular with Irish drivers.  They can serve the whole family while being cheap to buy, drive and insure. But how to find the best value for money?

The most popular buys

Irish leading motoring website (www.cbg.ie) team has recently conducted a survey on used cars’ prices analyzing the data available on its pages. It turned out, that the most popular vehicles from the small family segment are: Ford Focus, VW Golf and Opel Astra.

In fact Ford Focus has been Ireland’s best-selling car since 2001 and is appreciated for its quality, reliability, comfort and lively driver responsiveness. A 4-5 person family can benefit from its spacious boot and comfortable rear seats. Probably due to popularity and good PR, second-hand Focus is also more expensive than other used cars from the family segment.

The used cars’ prices

The Car Buyers Guide team has compared the prices of Focus, Golf and Astra 1.4 petrol models produced in 2006. Ford has proved to be the most expensive with the average price of €16,000. The biggest rival, VW Golf is not much cheaper – €15,500. Opel is the least pricey options and the average amount of money to be paid for a 1.4 3 year old model is only €12,000 even though it is as attractive as the other two in terms of technology and equipment.

Should it be Opel Astra?
